Tips on traveling with more than one infant PDF Print E-mail

It is vital that your babies be properly restrained in the seat of your car when traveling. Two car seats are required. In many states they are now required by law. Use rolled blankets on each side of a very small baby to give extra support and alignment in car seats.

Short trips:
  • Try to travel during their nap times.

  • Take with you a treat or a favorite toy.

  • Pack as lightly as possible.

  • Include a thermos of water and/or small containers of juice depending upon the age of the child.

  • Take extra sweaters or blankets.

  • If returning home at night, take their pajamas so you can get them ready for bed before you start the trip home.

  • Use disposable diapers when traveling.

  • Always pack extra baby food and formula for emergencies.

  • Longer trips:
  • If traveling by air, check each airline for accommodations and restrictions for all ages of children.

  • Pack in three sets of luggage
    1. Overnight bag for everyone's night clothes, toothbrushes, wash clothes, or anything need to bed them down
    2. Day-to-day clothing for everyone to wear while traveling. Arrange in sets with clean underwear, shirts, and pants.
    3. Clothes that are to be used at designation.
  • Include light treats and the termos.

  • To entertain them, bring toys and games, but avoid ones that have many loose parts.

  • Bring along either soap, wash cloths and towel, or throw away towelettes.

  • Make frequent roadside stops to give them a chance to get out of the car and stretch.

  • Plan ahead and make your reservations for needed accommodations, so you won't waste time driving around when everyone is hungry and tired.

  • If possible, bring along a teenage relative or friend to help out.

  • Be realistic about what you and your children can handle. Sometimes it is better to recommend family and friends visit you during this season of your life.
